Hyvää Joulua! Merry Christmas!

"The spirit of Christmas illuminates the picture window of the soul, and we look out upon the world’s busy life and become more interested in people than things. To catch the real meaning of the ''spirit of Christmas,'' we need only drop the last syllable, and it becomes the ''Spirit of Christ'' " (Thomas S. Monson, "The Best Christmas Ever," Ensign, Dec. 2008, 5).

*I have decided at the last moment that I was going to write a Christmas letter, but then I realized the letters wouldn't get to all on time. So this is my "Christmas letter" to all of my friends and family across the world.*

I am in my own little apartment now in Clermont, FL. I moved the end of last year from my parents home in Lakeland, FL. I also have a fairly new job. I started working at the Family Center YMCA at the Walt Disney World Resorts the beginning of September last year. I am a Pre-Kindergarten teacher there. I love teaching children! Its an amazing and rewarding career. I wouldn't want to be doing anything else.

In March was the 5K in honor of my brother, Mark Lawrence. He passed away last October due to a long battle against Mesothelioma. His wife, Jennifer, put together this race to raise money for Gilda's Club of Albany, NY (a nationwide cancer support club for families of cancer patients). I, unfortunately, was not able to attend due to work.

Dad, Jennifer, Michael, Connor, Kelley, Dylan, and Krista. The crowd that came out to support Gilda's Club. Krista, Mom, Dad, and Mom's 2 friends, Paula & Claudette

My Dad, brothers, and nephews planted a Dogwood tree in the side yard at the family cabin in Upstate NY. My dad chose that kind of tree because it has flowers that bloom around Mark's birthday (April). Here is some of the family after it was planted.

In June, I adopted a kitten. Her name is Roxz. She is very spunky with a slight hint of attitude. She is a cutie, though. She will be a year old in March. At that point I hope that the wall climbing will cease and she will become a bit calmer.

For those of you who know about my past surgeries, you are probably wondering if I am still doing ok. I have to say that I have been SO blessed in my life this past year. I am thankful for my health and the blessings my Heavenly Father has given me. After trials come the blessings. I go back this April for another CT scan. I am hoping and praying it will be more good news. :) I am the Relief Society Secretary in my ward. I have a 45 minute drive to church on Sundays. I have met some wonderful friends and I really enjoy my "ward family".

I want to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas (Hyvää Joulua)! I love all of the Christmas hymns but one of my favorites is "JOY to the World". I am so thankful for the gospel of Jesus Christ. May this holiday season bring joy and happiness to your homes and families.

A Good Laugh

Last night I went with some friends from my singles group from church to SAK Comedy Club in downtown Orlando. I had SO much fun! It was a blast .... I can't remember laughing that hard in a long time! Some adventures of the evening afterwards:

*Driving on a random roadtrip in downtown Orlando, and at one point going down the wrong way on a one way street. And you would think the driver was drunk! Not at all... it was just 1AM!

* Grid locked in the car on the streets of Orlando, with a crazy girl yelling "Yo Homie, what's up?!" to some black guys in a HUGE SUV! Where was I? Hiding in the back seat, scared for my life! CRAZY.

* Trip to Steak-n-Shake at 1:30AM and not getting home until 3AM!

I had SO MUCH FUN!!! :)
Here are some pictures from the night with the crew of SAK Comedy Club:

This is what FL should look like in the FALL! :)

Mom sent these pictures from Cambridge NY and Greenwich NY. This is what FL should look like in the Fall. Isn't it just SO beautiful?!

Friendship

I am so greatful for the new friends I have made since I have moved up to Orlando. I think we have become fast friends. This weekend I was able to spend some time with a couple of them. It was my friend, Rachel's birthday on Saturday. We celebrated by going to the Elephant Bar in Orlando on Friday night. She wanted to do something special on Saturday. She decided she wanted to walk on the beach for her birthday. Due to General Conference we waited till after 6PM to take the drive... well, it ended up being a little after 7:30 before we even left for the beach. We went to New Smyrna Beach. We had a blast! Girl time is always the best! :) The water was warm despite it being a bit chilly with the wind.

The moon in the distance. Beautiful sight.

Zen Asian Grill

Today after work I went for a drive to investigate the new shopping center off 27 near I-4. They have a Dollar Tree (always wonderful for teachers looking for ideas), Michael's (for the scrapbooker at heart), Super Target (where I got some cute Halloween deco for my classroom), and BEST BUY. But the one place I will most like to return to is the Zen Asian Grill! I loved it. I had the Shrimp Summer Roll and the Pad Thai Noodle-Sweet and Sour Sauce! It was EXCELLENT... and now I have 3 more meals from it all! :) YUM! If anyone is in the area... you should take a drive. I think they need all the business they can get. They have mine now! :)

Marimekko

My sister called tonight and told me I needed to visit the website http://www.finnishgifts.com/ (which is my new best friend!!!) lol She found my FAVORITE Finnish designer, Maija Isola, with her poppy flowered decor! Can you guess why she's my favorite?! lol I first found these pillows at a Crate and Barrell in Boston, MA (I bought the red.) But then I never saw them again until NOW! :) I'm so EXCITED. Here is a picture of what my living room looks like now. Notice my pillow?!

Here are the coasters I love too! :) I guess its just the Scandinavian in me. Check out the website... maybe you'll like something from there too. ENJOY.
